TIB’s Commitment to You: Shifting Perspectives to Uncover Beauty Beyond Standards in 2024.
It’s 12 days into the New Year, and we’ve missed the gym for the third time this week, forgotten to buy the limes and whatever the latest trending new salt is (apparently Pink Himalaya is out - who knew?!) to make our homemade electrolytes is AND we skipped staring at the sky for our sunlight circadian rhythm ‘’start the morning right’ routine.
Oppps.
I mean, this is reality and we’re not going to feel guilty about it.
HOWEVER.
One commitment, that we stand by, and we won’t fail YOU on, is our commitment to helping you see beauty where you didn't before.
We're dedicated to shifting your perception of beauty and growing our community of change-makers who stand with us in challenging harmful beauty ideals and shining a new light on the word beauty. We're here to show you that beauty is diverse and multifaceted, and it's up to you to define what beauty means to you.
Because let's get real.
Beauty is not a one-size-fits-all ideal. Beauty is about as infinite as the cosmos, and it lives within every single one of us.
It's not just about having a smooth firm forehead or a smile that could launch a thousand ships (if that’s your thing).
Nor is it about chasing impossible beauty ideals and trends perpetuated by the elite, (likely with the help of surgeons and AI) and destroying our own identity, and the planet at the same time.
And listen, we all have those days (or weeks, or months) where the mirror feels like an enemy. We obsess over ‘flaws’ that are mostly nothing more than normal skin, where we shrink in corners and believe that true beauty resides only in flawless faces and perfect proportions (whatever that may be for 2024…yawn).
And where does that leave us feeling about our own reflection? Somewhere along the lines of … ‘meh’.
But we’re here to change that.
Because we’re tired of feeling this way.
We’re taking a stand for all those who feel like they are losing a little something of themselves in the pursuit of beauty (standards) - to reclaim our value that lies beyond social media validation.
Because damn, there's so much beauty all around us and within us waiting to be recognised.
We're committed to leading this change, and here's how you can join us in revolutionising beauty ideals.
Step 1: Redefine Beauty For Yourself (Spoiler Alert: It's Wearing Mismatched Socks)
Forget the airbrushed ideals and impossible standards. Real beauty is diverse, messy, and full of life and probably wearing mismatched socks. It's the way your eyes light up when you talk about that book you just devoured, the laugh lines that crinkle around your eyes, the quiet strength in your smile that says, "I've been through some stuff, but I'm still standing." or the feeling you get when you surf the perfect wave. It’s time to embrace your weirdness, and celebrate your differences and your own story, because that's where the real beauty lies. Write a list of 5 ways beauty shows up for you, and go beyond the texture of your skin.
Step 2: Befriend the Gremlins (They have excellent gossip).
That’s what we’re calling our inner voice. The voices that make you feel insecure and keep you stuck. Yea Gremlins. But, instead of letting them hijack your potential, let’s invite them for a chat.
Write down your insecurities, the ones that make you want to crawl under the covers and pretend the world doesn't exist. And then do something radical. Reframe them as your superpower.
Remember the girl you admire for sharing her journey with eczema for the world to see? Or the girl who was told she’d never be a model due to a skin condition and then showed the world otherwise, or the person who rocks their birthmark for the world to see, despite being told you should cover it up to fit in. Of course, you do. Because they didn’t let the gremlins win. Instead they reframed their thoughts, told their beautiful, raw and genuine stories, and look at the impact they’re having. You can have that too.
Step 3: Find your Tribe ( Can we be friends?)
Surround yourself with people who see your soul, not just your reflection. Curate a real-life feed of people who inspire you to be.. YOU. And certainly do a deep clean of your social media accounts, there are some epic people out there who like us, are tearing down impossible beauty standards and showing the world what real beauty looks like, one breakout, one stretch mark at a time. Find them (we’ll help you) Follow them and build your own tribe of beautiful beings.
Lastly. Be the God Damn Sun, Not the Satellite.
Stop orbiting other people's expectations. Forget comparing yourself to fake lives on Instagram. Instead, set your own rules. Break them and set new ones. But do it on your own terms. And like the sun, shine your beautiful light. From the inside out.
So there we go, and into 2024 we will continue.
Because we believe everyone deserves to feel beautiful and empowered in their own skin. And we won’t stop until this becomes reality. For you and generations to come.
Together, we can create a world where everyone feels confident and beautiful, just the way they are.
Are you with us?
so, what is glycerin?
Derived from sugar compounds, glycerin often makes its appearance in the form of a transparent, unscented liquid. Commonly referred to as 'glycerol', this powerful ingredient forms a natural part of the skin's ecosystem. While it might not have graced the covers of glossy magazines or attracted sensational headlines, its role as a fundamental constituent in skincare formulations is irrefutable and undeniably pivotal.
the science behind glycerin
Glycerin is a spectacularly potent humectant. Now, you might be asking yourself, "WTF is a humectant?" A humectant in skincare performs a very special role. Its primary function is to draw water into the outermost layer of your skin from the deeper levels within your body, almost like a hydration courier.
What makes glycerin particularly stellar is its dual-action ability. Not only does it transport internal hydration to you skin's surface, but it also works as an environmental water-grabber. Essentially, it's able to pull moisture from the air around you. It's an effective moisture magnet, ensuring your skin stays optimally hydrated.
Across the skincare industry, many products actually contain glycerin, as well as the product’s featured ingredient, which is a testament to its popularity and effectiveness. It's a go-to ingredient that is as reliable as it is beneficial.
the benefits of glycerin
If you're trying to improve your skin's health and appearance, you'll want to know about the impressive benefits of glycerin. Brace yourself, because there's a bunch:
Moisturisation: Glycerin is a powerful moisturiser. It absorbs water from the atmosphere reducing dry and dull patches on the skin and restoring hydration.
Skin barrier strength: Glycerin fortifies your skin’s natural barrier, preventing moisture loss and protecting your skin from harmful substances.
Smoothness: Its hydrating power can help make your skin feel softer and smoother, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Healing: Glycerin can assist in the skin's healing process, which can be beneficial for those dealing with acne, skin irritations or cuts.
Non-irritating: Even for those with sensitive skin, glycerin is gentle and unlikely to cause irritation, making it a great addition to any skincare routine.
Thanks to these features, incorporating glycerin into your skincare routine can provide significant improvements in the health and appearance of your skin.
How to add glycerin into your skincare routine:
Adding glycerin into your daily skincare regime is simple, as it's widely used, you'll find it in a range of products, such as cleansers, toners, moisturisers, and masks, so the key is to choose based on your skin type.
Remember, with any new ingredient or product, start slow and observe how your skin reacts.
A basic skincare routine usually follows these order of steps: Cleanser, then Toner, Serums, Moisturiser and Oils, (morning routines will then follow with Sunscreen, and finish with Makeup on top if you wear it).
Cleanser: You can start your routine with a glycerin-based cleanser, which will be gentle on the skin and start the hydration process.
Toner: After your regular cleanser, use a toner containing glycerin to restore pH balance.
Serum: Once your skin is cleansed and toned, apply a hydrating serum that lists glycerin among its ingredients.
Moisturiser / Mask: Finish off your routine with a moisturiser or mask that is enriched with glycerin, leaving your skin with an all-day long hydration.
As always, don’t forget the all-important step of SPF during the day. While glycerin it is wonderful for hydration, it does not provide sun protection.
